About the Association

The Association was formed in 1990 as the Association of Demographers of Yugoslavia, and after the breakup of the former SFR Yugoslavia and later the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia changed its name to the Association of Demographers of Serbia (abbreviated as DDS- Društvo Demografa Srbije). At the beginning of 2009, DDS had 109 members and 97 members who had student status. Almost a fifth of its members are from abroad (BiH, France, Greece ...).

The main activities of the DDS are related to the popularization of demographics, and since its inception it has been engaged in the organization and realization of scientific research in demography as well as publishing. Since 1990, together with the Center for Demographic Research of the Institute of Social Sciences, he has co-published the scientific journal "Stanovništvo", and since 2000 the Bulletin "Demografski pregled" (together with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and the Center for Demographic Research of the Institute of Social Sciences ). In 2005, the DDS co-organized the International Scientific Conference "Migrations, Crises and Recent Conflicts in the Balkans" (85 participants from 18 countries). Each year, the traditional DDS Lecutre is givien, presenting the results of demographic surveys or discussing selected topics related to the current demographic moment of Serbia.

The Association of Demographers of Serbia is a voluntary, non-partisan, non-governmental, independent and not-for-profit association of scientific and professional workers united in the pursuit of common goals and tasks set out in its Statute:

According to the Statute, the Association of Demographers of Serbia:

a) reviews and publishes papers in the field of demography;

b) works to advance the teaching of demography;

c) initiates and organize scientific and professional work in the field of demography;

d) organizes cooperation between demographers and researchers from other fields;

e) organizes cooperation with related social organizations, associations, institutions and scientists abroad;

f) organizes professional and scientific conferences (consultations, symposia, conferences, congresses);

g) issues relevant publications;

h) establishes cooperation with economic, socio-political and cultural organizations;

i) undertakes other appropriate activities and measures.
